Director of Business Development, Eric Stegemann was part of a panel at the 140 Conference in April, 2010 in New York. The topic of discussion was real estate’s impact on the real time web and vice versa. The fact of the matter is that Realtors are well ahead of most other industries when it comes business engagement on Twitter. The crowd in the audience and online seem to be shocked by this fact.
Eric gave a couple of great points which we’ll feature in future posts:
1) Use a give, then get, then give strategy when it comes to online information to and from prospective clients
2) Social media is NOT a lead generation tool, it’s a branding mechanism for agents and brokers to become the trusted advisor to clients in their area over a long term period. Although some leads come in from it, more leads will be gained over the long run by directing clients through a branding strategy to a website. (much in the same way that cell phone vendors advertise on tv, not hoping that you buy one today, but instead that when it is time to buy that you consider their product.)
